About Me

I am a first year teacher at a school in Mott Haven, an area in the South Bronx, New York.  I teach 9th Grade ‘Global Studies.’  This site will be my journal for the year.  In order to protect the identity of my students, my colleagues, and the school, pseudonyms will be used.  I will refer to the school as SoBro, the teachers as Mr. A, Mr. B, etc, and the students by first name only.

This journal will contain my hopes, dreams, reflections, and insights that I gain throughout the year.

Really cool site, Adrian. Sorry I have not gotten up here until now, but I am duly impressed. I really liked your solar system activity although you said it may not have gone as well as you would have liked….but it sounds like you changed a few things, and went at it again. You brought the students into the heliocentric argument with passion and planning (although even best laid plans do change…) and it sounds like they really benefited from it.

As for the welcome to teaching comment….it really is the truth. Things can change in the blink of an eye, and you have to be ready to roll with the punches, as you have.

Finally, copy codes do tend to run out when you need them most. BUT, I have found that my greatest lessons come when I am no longer attached to the copy machine, and have to fall back on my own devices.

I REALLY look forward to being able to see you in class soon, and I think you were at Crown and Anchor Friday with Patrick et. al, but I must have missed you. Hope you quenched your thirst. :)

Adrian- I continue to be impressed by your blog project. It sounds like you have gotten the attention of many people at your school and this can only be a good thing! Don’t worry too much about the struggles to get this thing off the ground, I think it is a normal process when students (and people in general) take a little time to get familiar with a new approaches to teaching and learning. Thanks for all you have contributed to the class, thanks for your reflectiveness, and double thanks for your innovation. It takes a strong person to create new and exciting approaches to learning, and you are to be commended for your dedication towards your students and towards your own learning.

Hope the week is going well!

    James
