Today I learned:
- The best laid plans change drastically when confronted with real life. The size of the classroom really makes a huge difference on how you are able to have students move around.
- Copy machine accounts tend to run out the day you really need them. Running around looking for copy machines with enough copies left sucks up a whole bunch of time. Perhaps students should be responsible for bringing in some of their own work… This might come in the form of a History Alive! type journal.
- Trying to utilize the comic-book style notes pages didn’t work so well, considering there wasn’t much modeling to go along with the lecture.
- There is a strange gap between the homework the students have been asked to do, and the way I teach in class. This leads to some confusion on the parts of the students. They generally get worksheets that follow along with the readings, and we usually do more conceptual things.
- Asking students to do homework, then not taking it up when you say you will disappoints the kids.
